Wellington & Alexander win Hawaii 2008 12 Oct

Chrissie Wellington has defended her 2007 Hawaii title with a powerful victory on the Lava fields in 2008. Rebekah had a helping hand in the win, though not in the manner we all know she is capable of (look out Hawaii 2009!).

In the men’s race, Australia’s own Craig Alexander became only the 3rd Ozzie to claim the title of World Ironman Champion. Awesome.

Here’s a good review of this year’s race. Bek’s report to follow.

Rebekah Keat wins Busselton Triathlon 06 May

LEADING Australian long-course triathlete Rebekah Keat showed she is over her leg injury by winning the Busselton Half-Ironman.

Keat was defending champion for the April 6 Ironman Australia race, but could not start because of the calf muscle problem. At Saturday’s race south of Perth, she took the lead early in the bike and built a margin of three minutes for the run.

Despite limited run training because of her injury, Keat only lost 24 seconds on the final leg and won the 1.9 km swim, 90km cycle and 21.1km run in four hours 14 minutes and 17 seconds. Claire Goldsmith was next in 4:16:43 and Ironman WA champion Charlotte Paul took third with 4:24:42.

Apart from her Ironman Australia win, Keat is also a top-10 finisher at the Hawiian Ironman world championships.
